"Freakout In A Moonage Daydream" (David Bowie)

£2,895.00
sold out

Artwork Inspiration:

This mixed media aluminium piece captures David Bowie during his iconic Ziggy Stardust phase in an exploration of one of the defining pop and rock music moments of the 1970s.

Bowie is staring out into the cosmos, resplendent in his Ziggy Stardust persona, sporting a gravity-defying spiked mullet, and confidently flaunting a woman's earring. Yet, there's more to this artwork than meets the eye. The backdrop is a striking maze of electronic circuit boards, and nestled within this futuristic landscape, you'll discover the enigmatic presence of an "electric eye" operating manual, hinting at the mysterious narrative of “Moonage Daydream” lyrics.

But why electronic circuit boards, you may wonder? Well, they are also a fascinating nod to the artist Louis Sidoli himself. Long ago in the 1980’s, Louis Sidoli started his career as an electrical designer. Thus, they aren't just an aesthetic choice, they represent his technical background, merging seamlessly within the fabric of the work.

The split-screen storytelling present in this piece represents one of Bowie's most celebrated tracks, "Moonage Daydream," from the seminal Ziggy Stardust album of 1972. Through an interplay of space invaders and bold graphics, this artwork encapsulates the individuality and mystique that Bowie effortlessly conjured during his glam rock pinnacle.

Below: Watch David Bowie perform “Moonage Daydream” at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1973 with a Mick Ronson guitar solo that elevates this performance to one of the best of Bowie’s career:

Materials: Mixed media on a brushed aluminium plate with a flawless high gloss finish. Mounted on brushed anodised aluminium with a precision machined finishing strip.

Framed Size: 97cm x 97cm

Edition: Original 1/1 signed by artist.
