"He's The Greatest Dancer"

£2,895.00
sold out

About:

This sleek aluminium artwork captures the essence of the timeless 1979 classic "He's the Greatest Dancer" by Sister Sledge, a masterpiece written and produced by the iconic Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic and infused with their signature funk disco grooves.

The artwork takes us on a journey to Studio 54, where disco, glamour, and fashion reigned supreme. The carefully curated elements intertwine seamlessly to narrate the story behind the record. The mesmerizing backdrop of meticulously arranged disco balls are reminiscent of a polka-dot fabric, referencing the renowned American fashion icon, Halston, who is name checked in the lyrics and who was an integral part of the Studio 54 "Fashion Pack." At the top the artwork, Halston himself is depicted in a vintage fashion advert.

Dominating the foreground, a magnanimous large pair of "Disco Lips" belt out one of the record's most iconic lines: "Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci." The bodybuilder depicted is Mr. America of the 1970s: Frank Zane. He represents the legendary line: "He had the kind of body that would shame Adonis."

Below: Watch the Sister Sledge video from 1979 “He’s The Greatest Dancer” which inspired this piece.

Materials: Mixed media on a brushed aluminium plate with a flawless high gloss finish. Mounted on matt black aluminium with a precision machined finishing strip.

Framed Size: 97cm x 97cm

Edition: Original 1/1 signed by artist.
